Housing is pricey in California – and that includes student housing. Eight of the 10 universities with the nation’s priciest off-campus student housing are in California. The university with the most expensive off-campus housing in the country is the University of California Los Angeles with an average monthly rent of $2,141 per bed. University of California Berkeley is only a little less, at $2,019. Beds at the remaining California schools in the top 10 average anywhere between $1,283 and $1,728. The only schools outside of California to be among the nation’s priciest are the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Of the core 175 universities tracked by RealPage, the average monthly rent is $706 per bed. Yet, the 16 California schools in the Realpage 175 average $1,268 per bed per month.
