Expect Continued Surge in Apartment Development

New apartment construction in 2022 will top the 30-year highs seen in 2021. Demand from renters, capital providers and yield-hungry investors is limited only by worry about labor and materials shortages while rising rents and incomes offset construction and land costs. Some developers aim to double growth by leaning into suburban plays and outdoor living spaces alongside ongoing urban projects.
