Vice President Henry Pye discusses switching to fiber infrastructure

(November 6, 2015) —
In Student Housing Business’ November issue, RealPage’s Vice President of Resident Technology Henry Pye shares with readers his thoughts around how student housing will shift its connectivity to better provide high-speed Internet access to its properties.

In the article he states, “What has changed significantly, is bandwidth, the number of devices per resident, the way residents utilize Internet access and the lifespan of the related equipment. Specifically, communities now average 50 to 200 Mbps per bed, with a few as high as 1 Gbps; residents now have an average of more than seven devices, with an average of 5.5 wireless devices; streaming video and gaming are the most prevalent applications; and wireless equipment needs to be upgraded every three to four years.”
