RealPage Automates BAH Rate Management for Military Housing

Automation greatly improves efficiency of annual process

(January 12, 2010) — RealPage, Inc. (www.realpage.com), a leading provider of on-demand software and services to the real estate industry, today announced the availability of Automated BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) Rate Management as part of its RealPage Military Housing system.

“This innovation eliminates the need for privatized military housing site staff to manually retrieve data from government web sites each year and cull through the data for rates that apply to their projects,” said Dave McKenna, director of military housing for RealPage. “RealPage automatically retrieves the annual BAH rate tables and updates the entire system with the current valid rates.”

The annual Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is based on geographic duty location, pay grade and dependency status. The intent of BAH is to provide uniformed service members accurate and equitable housing compensation based on housing costs in local civilian housing markets and when government housing is not available. RealPage loaded the 2010 BAH rates into its military housing software so that its clients could automatically access the rates.

“We used the system to automatically update our BAH rates for 2010. The automatic update was a very easy process and took a fraction of the time to complete,” said Charlene Blakely, business manager for United Communities responsible for McGuire Air Force Base and Ft. Dix. “In the past, we had to manually adjust every resident’s rent for the new BAH rates. With OneSite, RealPage loaded the rates so that the updates could be done by us. We were able to determine which rates were to be changed based on the Rental Agreements.”

McKenna explained that BAH Rate Management is a good example of RealPage’s vision for military housing software.

“Our goal is to automate the critical operational tasks of privatized military housing to ensure accuracy and security and to liberate valuable staff time to focus on interacting with residents rather than with software,” said McKenna.
