Uncovering the Impact of Rental Application Fraud in Multifamily
Rental fraud is on the rise. Our 2024 National Multifamily Fraud Research Study may just change the way you think about tenant screening.
The insights and research team at RealPage® is pleased to provide the results of its 2024 National Multifamily Fraud Research Study, the largest of its kind in the multifamily industry. Our mission was to add data-driven clarity to the application fraud conversation and shed light on what’s causing the rising tide of rental fraud.
A total of 402 multifamily property managers in centralized and property-centric/regional roles in Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and Seattle participated in this fraud study in January 2024. Their responses revealed surprising discoveries about the causes of rising fraud in multifamily, including organized crime drug and sex trafficking rings, how leasing fraud is carried out and by whom, the gaps in fraud prevention measures that delay fraud detection until after move-in, including insufficient background screening and lack of staff motivation, and fraud prevention solutions for mitigating risk.
This white paper details the exact insights that multifamily property managers, asset owners and trend watchers have wanted to know but couldn’t find anywhere else. And they may change the way you think about applicant screening.
